As part of this year's fab WRITE FESTIVAL at The Word in South Shields, we have a bonus FLASH!MOB prompt for September: BETWEEN THE PAGES but beware, the deadline is on Tuesday! (In two day's time!)

300 to 1k wobbly words... any genre... any style... go wild with the whatifs!

What if...

  • You find pressed flowers between the pages of an old book. Each time you touch them, you’re pulled into the memory of the person who left them there…
  • A librarian is working late one night and notices that by the light of the moon, hidden messages appear between the pages of each book they are trying to catalogue…
  • A book of fairy tales is used as the cypher to hide secret messages between wartime spies...
  • A killer hides clues between the pages of books sent to the local newspaper…
  • Overdue library books keep turning up with strange objects tucked between the pages…
  • You find a dusty tome in the reference library and when you pull it off the shelf, a piece of notepaper falls out…

Any of these or whatever springs to mind... have fun and happy writing.

Deadline: Noon TUESDAY 9th September 2025

We'll be launching the eBook on Friday 12th September on Zoom at 6pm. Everyone sending in a story will get an invite!

Please email stories to: submissions@harveyduckman.com with the subject line PAGES and please check out our submission guidelines so you know what you're letting yourself in for (original work only, fiction or creative non-fiction welcome, no AI, no fee, no royalties, for fun only, all proceeds to the Harvey project for future stuff...).

If I miss out your story, it's probably an oversight... please give me a shout and I'll fix it asap.

A note on wobbly word counts: 300 words is just a rough guide... anything up to 1k words or so is fine xx
