Hi everyone,

Hope you have all had a safe, inspiring, warm and peaceful holiday season so far.

Bizarrely, I wrote the title of this post just before I read the latest blog post by Mark Hayes… (https://markhayesblog.com/) but yes, I am a pirate at heart, and always will be.

It's that time of year when we can't help but look back over the past twelve months, and whilst it's been challenging, to put it lightly, I'm grateful we got the chance to reboot Harvey Duckman and have some fun. Harvey's great and thank you to everyone who's still with me on this new adventure. Here's to the next twelve months and wherever it may take us...

Speaking of which, Harvey's next anthology, the first from the DARK/URBAN FANTASY basket, is due out on Friday 10th January 2025 and is available to pre-order now:

It's been a bucketful of fun to put together, and thank you to all the writers in it: Anna Atkinson-Dunn, Kate Baucherel, John Holmes-Carrington, Mark Hayes, Liz Tuckwell, Christine King, CK Roebuck, Laura Buckley, Keith Errington, Davia Sacks, Nimue Brown, Angela Smith, Ben Sawyer and JA Wood.

Keep a look out on Facebook (www.facebook.com/cghatton) every day for one line teasers to each awesome story, from now until launch day.

The next Harvey basket, SCI-FI, is now open (deadline 28th February 2025) and after that it'll be back to STEAMPUNK but with a slight tweak that this basket is being widened to be ALTERNATIVE HISTORY/STEAMPUNK. We just thought this basket has so much more potential and love the idea of history-twisting stories from all sorts of time periods.

Upcoming Baskets:
SCI-FI: deadline 28th February 2025
ALTERNATIVE HISTORY/STEAMPUNK: deadline 30th May 2025
POST APOCALYPSE/DYSTOPIAN: deadline 29th August 2025
URBAN/DARK FANTASY: deadline 28th November 2025

Harvey baskets explained
We have four baskets into which we allocate stories as they are accepted. These baskets lead to themed editions of Harvey…

In the meantime, this month's FLASH!MOB prompt is PROOF OF THE PUDDING and there's still a few days left to send in a story (it doesn't have to be festive). Check out more details here:

Flash!Mob Dec24: PROOF OF THE PUDDING
300 words... any genre... any style... go wild with the festive whatifs!

For members of Harvey Duckman & The Robinson House Writers this month, we have a new post on writing - one of my favourites - Routes to Publishing. If anyone is wondering where to take their book in the coming months, we go through the options available. It can be a minefield, but we have a great community here with a load of experience in all routes, so give us a shout if you'd like more info.

Read more here:

Routes to Publishing... trad or indie, and everything in between
If you’ve finished your book, or you’re getting close, there are a few different routes you can take to get to the point where you have your book in your hand…

I have a few writer planners for 2025 left if anyone would like one. Not just a diary, these also have pages for character notes, plot planning, world building, chapter pacing and more... Give me a shout if you'd like one (£10 + postage).

Our next Stokesley meeting for the Robinson House Writers is scheduled for Thursday 9th January, 12-1pm in the meeting room above the Globe Community Library, Stokesley. All welcome. £2 towards the room hire and 50p for a tea or coffee. We'll be starting work on setting up and analysing Amazon ads for 2025.

Our last Sunday in the month Writer Zooms will start again in January. If you'd like to pop along for an online catch up and chat about your WIP, please email me at cgh@cghatton.com and I'll send you the link.

That's all for now.
Happy writing, happy reading and very best wishes for the New Year,
CGH xx
